Through the Australian Government’s Climate-Smart Agriculture Program, the Hills and Fleurieu region now has a dedicated Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF).
Our SAF is a local, on-the-ground contact for farmers, landholders, community groups and agricultural industries, supporting the adoption of climate-smart and sustainable farming practices.
They provide practical, up-to-date advice and connections across:
- best-practice natural resource management and sustainable agriculture
- biodiversity, carbon and emerging environmental markets
- on-farm emissions reduction and climate resilience strategies
- relevant government policies, programs and tools
- current and upcoming funding and grant opportunities
- local events, workshops, training and communities of practice
The SAF also plays a key role in connecting people and organisations to strengthen collaboration and outcomes, linking:
- farmers, landholders, Landcare, community groups and industry
- First Nations peoples and organisations
- extension officers, including Regional Soil Coordinators, Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub adoption officers, and Carbon Farming Outreach advisors
- projects and grantees supported through the Natural Heritage Trust and Future Drought Fund
Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators are supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.
