Restoring woodland bird populations in the Mount Lofty Ranges

ReBird the Ranges is an exciting initiative taking action to restore woodland bird populations and habitats across the Mount Lofty Ranges.

The Mount Lofty Ranges is home to one of the highest concentrations of threatened woodland bird species in Australia. Seventy-eight species are in decline and twelve have already become regionally extinct.

Birds are essential to the health and balance of our shared ecosystems. By supporting birdlife, we also contribute to the broader goal of ensuring a healthy, thriving and sustainable environment for our collective future. ReBird the Ranges is focused on bringing people together to regenerate habitat and protect nature across native bushland, farm and rural properties, public land and backyards.

Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu is proud to partner with ReBird the Ranges, to help restore woodland bird populations and habitats in our region. Guided by the ReBird the Ranges Action Plan, we are delivering key outcomes including:

  • Revegetating heathland in Deep Creek on the Fleurieu Peninsula to support species such as the western beautiful firetail, Mount Lofty Ranges chestnut-rumped heathwren, and southern emu-wren.
  • Revegetating low-rainfall grassy woodlands in priority areas of the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges to benefit species including the diamond firetail, hooded robin, restless flycatcher, jacky winter, southern whiteface, chestnut-rumped thornbill, and brown treecreeper.

With every tree planted and every habitat protected, we are helping create positive change across our shared landscapes, ensuring our unique birdlife flourishes for generations to come.
